The 10 signs it might be time for a rebrand

When it comes time to push the button on a brand shake-up, it can often be those closest to the brand that are last to climb aboard the good ship Rebrand. So, sit back, take a deep breath, and see how your brand fairs - with our handy guide to what to look out for.


  1. The Identity Crisis
    A common complaint. You still like some elements of your brand. Perhaps the logo still feels fresh enough? But the brand name? Well, It’s just not ‘you’ anymore. Time for something that better reflects where you are now as a brand.


  2. The Logo that Time Forgot
    Time catches up with us all in the end. You’ve had a good run, but if your logo is harbouring more special effects than a Marvel movie, it’s perhaps time to drop the drop shadow.


  3. The Awkward Bastard
    You have one logo - and it is not changing for anybody! Watch as it unsuccessfully squeezes into an array of ill-fitting social spaces and unflattering ad sizes. It claims it can pull of those slinky little social sizes, but who is it kidding? You need a modern adaptable identity system, if you want your brand to go places these days.

  4. The Headscratcher
    Your brand name is either mispronounced, misheard or misspelt. It’s much harder to sell what your selling, if your brand is as memorable as the plot of a Fast & Furious movie.


  5. The Bad Boy
    Worst-case scenario. Something has happened, something rather unpleasant. It might not even be your fault. Nevertheless, you can’t shake that stink. There’s no Febreze for pungent brands, but it may be time to think of a fresh direction.

  6. The Patch Job
    Over the years you’ve managed to acquire a range of similar (and not-so-similar) logos. Each with the finger-marks of various vanquished designers and defunct agencies. Your branded collateral is a veritable patchwork of design work. You crave consistency, but don’t know where to start

  7. The Blender
    Once upon a time your brand looked sharp, but now, with a host of new kids on the block, you’ve starting to blend in. Time to get that cutting edge back.

  8. The Frankenstein
    Whether you’ve had a small infusion of new blood, switched heads, or even experienced the merging of two disparate bodies - sometimes you need a new brand to help bring this new ‘monster’ together. 

  9. The Sitting Duck
    Your success has made you a target. Now someone else is swimming a little too close for comfort. Perhaps they’re doing things a little better? Perhaps not. Perhaps their identity or even their name, looks strangely familiar? It’s time to go ruffle some feathers and move in a new direction.


  10. The Damp Squib
    The spark’s gone. It happens to the best of us. You’ve been wedded to the same typeface and limited colour palette for more years than you can shake a pantone book at. You long for something to get excited about again. A brand guidelines that truly understands your needs. You just need to put yourself back out there. Time to slide into an agency’s DMs and see where it takes you.
